Armchair American About Me
My name is Kurt Dunphy and I am the quintessential “Armchair American”. I am a keen observer of local, state, national, and international events. I read local and national newspapers, watch TV news, listen to local radio and national podcasts, and do my share of web surfing. I have an opinion on most major topics, and occasionally I am compelled to write a “Letter to the Editor” to my local newspaper. I do some volunteer work, but my main exercise of civic engagement is through voting, which I conscientiously do every election. On rare occasion, I will donate small amounts of money to a political candidate. I prefer to back issues or a particular candidate, rather than to back a political party. I prefer not be to labelled right or left, Democrat or Republican. Some people have labelled me “Republican”, and view me through that prism. It’s not true, and that’s why I don’t like labels. Labels are narrow, rigid, and never tell the whole truth. Suffice it to say that I am not affiliated with any political party, and we’ll leave it at that.
I have had the extreme good fortune to have been born a white male in the United States of America. I have lived through some of the most prosperous and least violent times in our history. As such, I have had many privileges afforded me that are not available to everyone. Any shortcomings or failures on my part, are of my own doing.
I enjoy a comfortable life in Northern California with my wonderful wife.
