The executive order establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) instructs all federal government agency heads to ensure that DOGE has full and prompt access to all unclassified agency records, software systems, and IT systems. This means that Elon Musk and his DOGE bros have access to your Social Security records, tax returns, medical records from Medicare and Medicaid, student loan documents, military records, and any other federal program that you have participated in. I for one don’t trust DOGE or Elon Musk to safeguard this data or to prevent it from being used to benefit themselves or the Trump Administration. This is potentially the greatest breech of Americans’ personal data in history. The first step in safeguarding your personal data is to determine what data of yours has been obtained by DOGE. Under the Federal Privacy Act of 1974 citizens have the right to access personal information held in any U.S. government records system. Representative Jamie Raskin is encouraging all U.S. citizens to join him in filing formal demands for access to their data obtained by DOGE. The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has issued an injunction commanding DOGE to comply with citizen requests for their personal data under the Freedom of Information Act. Jamie Raskin is a Democrat from Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, and in my opinion is one of the smartest members of Congress. He is the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, a graduate of Harvard Law School, and a former professor of constitutional law. I have followed Representative Raskin’s lead and filled out my Privacy Act request, and you can do so by filling out the form at this link. Fill out the form, print it out and mail it to DOGE at the address specified at the top of the letter. If enough citizens send in a Privacy Act Request it may overwhelm DOGE’s ability to respond, slow down their activities, and put them on notice that American citizens are paying attention. If you prefer not to access the link, here is a copy of the letter: March 16, 2025 U.S. Department of Government Efficiency 736 Jackson Place, W Washington, D.C. 20503 RE: Privacy Act Access Request Dear Privacy Officer or Coordinator: In accordance with the Privacy Act, 5 U.S.C. § 552a(d)(1), I request copies of (1) all records about or pertaining to me in the possession or control of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) or the United States Digital Service (USDS), and (2) all records about or pertaining to me contained within any system of records in the possession or control of DOGE and USDS, including any records or information about or pertaining to me that is contained in a copy, made or received by an employee or contractor of DOGE or USDS, including members of “DOGE Teams” or other DOGE-affiliated individuals.
